Goodbye Women's Month

The Protea Glen Ward 14 Youth League, the Mlototambane branch wrapped up Woman’s Month with a three-kilometer fun walk from Boxer shopping centre to Furline car wash in Protea north.

Since it was a wrap up for Woman’s Month, the walk was aimed at raising awareness of woman abuse and gender equality and other woman related matters.

Mlototambane brunch head of Art, Culture, and Sports, Ottilia Mokoena indicated that women are cornerstones of the families hence they should be encouraged to be independent.

“We normally host lots of campaigns about abuse and gender equality, but it looks like we forget the most important thing, education.

“Education will always be key in our lives, we are tired of seeing our fellow sisters making poor decisions simply because they lack education.

“We are challenging the younger generation to stand on their feet to open businesses rather than looking for blessers to take care of them,” she explained.

The day was full of exciting activities which included fitness exercises commanded by Protea Aerobics Fitness team.

“It is worthless to have educated and business women in an unhealthy state. To add on that I think, it is no secret that women are faced with lots of challenges be it being victims of raped and kidnapping and all other violent behavior we are facing.

“We should be able to protect ourselves. Those times of waiting for men to protect us is over, we should be able to look after ourselves,” indicated Thuli Mashiya of Protea Aerobics Fitness team.

Thokozane Skhosane from Protea extension four expressed her excitement over the event as she thinks that the event was a sign that women’s importance is acknowledged.

“It is encouraging to see men in support of this event. It is also motivating that our worth as women is acknowledged, I would like to urge other young women to join us in the coming drive,” She said.

ANC zonal secretary Tintswalo Maluleke said, “These kinds of occasions were not supposed to be a once of things. We supposed to be supporting each other every day if it’s possible. It is in these kinds of gathering where we could have time to share ideas and empower one another,” she explained.
