Breaking News: 13 school children rushed to hospital today following an accident in Meadowlands Zone 6
A 3-year-old child lost her life on August 27 after being hit by a car on the same road.
Meadowlands residents witnessed an accident at the corner of Thulari and Heald Roads in Meadowlands after 6 am involving 13 school children.
According to the JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla, the driver of a VW taxi was arrested for driving under the influence.
“The driver of the car was speeding  and as a result, he lost control of the car and collided with a tree.”
13 school children who were being transported by the driver, had to be rushed to a hospital to receive treatment for injuries sustained during the crash.
According to Fihla, the driver will appear in the Meadowlands Magistrate Court today.
Ward 42 Councillor Takalani Nefotoni said that drivers should drive cautiously.
“We have issued petitions to the JRA and we are waiting for them to implement stricter controls.
“We will organise a prayer meeting to pray for the parents and other families who lost their loved ones due to accidents taking place at Heald Road.”
