No rehabilitation here, only restoration

IOG hopes to expand and open more homes for those who need restoration

The Institute Of Grace (IOG) was started in 2015 by Pastor Kurt Van Heerdan in the hope of helping those who are in the grip of substance abuse.

Van Heerdanhas always had a passion for people and it has always been a dream of his to help others. This is the reason he decided to open what he calls a restoration centre for those in need of rehabilitation.

The restoration centre was first opened in Florida, with the main house consisting of both male and female sections. A few months ago the restoration found another location in Eldorado Park Extension Three.

This location, which is known as the Integration House is home to men who have completed their six months at the Florida centre. The Eldorado Park centre focuses on reintegrating the men back into society.

IOG has a six-month programme which is split into two phases. The first phase is the four-month programme that needs to be completed at the Florida centre.

During these four months, the men and women tackle their addictions and get the necessary help they require.

“This phase is the most difficult because here withdrawal symptoms are so bad,” said Thomas Matle, a graduate of the programme. Motivational speakers and other professionals are there to assist individuals with defeating their addictions.

“Church services are held as the main focus is God. “We cannot do anything without God, He is the healer, He is always there and will always be there for us,” said Chellon Palmer, who is in the second phase of his restoration.

The second phase is a two-month programme that helps integrate the individuals back into society. Motivational speakers and church services are held during this phase as well.

IOG focuses on teaching the word of God and raising leaders. “This is not a rehabilitation centre, it is a restoration centre. God does not rehabilitate, he recreates and he restores,” said Matle.

IOG hopes to expand and open more homes for those who need restoration. The organisation plans to not only focus on substance abuse. In the near future, the organisation plans to open homes for orphans, abused women and homes where men can learn skills that will help them find jobs.
