Redefining the young person’s role

A full report on the workshop held by The National Civic Alliance

The National Civic Alliance hosted a workshop for young people at the Library Hall recently. The purpose was to empower the youth because the workshop is mainly concerned about touching base with youth programmes.

Dlangedwa Mvelase the leader of the organization said, “The motivation behind the workshop was that we saw that there is a high unemployment rate in our area and also there is a lack of skills and lack of information for our youth.”

Attendees not only consisted of Protea Glen residents but residents from Freedom Park and other areas around Soweto.

Councillor George Mahlangu opened proceedings and other speakers made presentations on what they could offer young unemployed people.

“We are expecting the people that are here to make use of these opportunities that we have made available to them like we have the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) presenting as well as the office of the premier,” said Mvelase.

Hosting this kind of workshop for the first time, Mvelase emphasized the importance of young people grabbing every opportunity.

For residents who were not aware of the workshop and were unable to attend, must attend in future.
