Mrs Africa finalist, Diana Robertson-Tsotetsi held a fundraising event on July 29 at the Don Mateman Civic Centre Hall towards the Dignity Dreams initiative as part of her Mrs Africa charity drive.

The initiative provides women and girls in need of sanitary wear with reusable, South African Board of Standards absorbency approved sanitary wear which lasts up to three and a half years.

In Eldorado Park, there are girls in desperate need of support like this and the Leap of faith-themed endeavour supports the vision to ensure that the girls receive adequate hygiene care.

The concert allowed young girls from Eldorado Park to use art and various dance types to spread the message of restoring their own dignity.

“I firmly believe that God has given us the ability to be our own solution and that we are the answer to our own questions. Everything that we need, if we as a community and as a people stand together, we can achieve it through God’s grace.

“There is power in unity. I am an ambassador for Afrikaans and I am a University of Johannesburg community engagement volunteer and these two entities allowed the event to be a success,” said Robertson-Tsotsetsi.

The programme directors were educators Cyril Marais from Eldorado Park and Kenneth Robertson from Sir John Adamson High School.

Guest artist Raylene McBride, hip-hop solo artist Dhelmon Elie and a group performance by Legacy Dance Crew, contemporary and afro fusion dancers called The Untouchables Empire and finally, the UJ Community Engagement volunteers participated in song and drama, contributed to the success of the event.

The main act for the evening was the dancers from the Eldorado Park Primary School.

“I am such a proud teacher when I see them perform,” said Robertson-Tsotsetsi.

Enough money was raised for 40 girls to receive the Dignity Dreams packs which will be handed over to the girls at the ceremony and wellness day on August 26.

This is not only to do the much-needed menstrual education but also to celebrate the efforts of the learners and salute the community’s support that had made it possible.
