PAPU offers skills development programmes for youth

"We are inviting youth between the ages of 18 and 29 years old to be trained for 10 days."

The social development programme People Against Poverty and Unemployment (PAPU) will be having a programme run by 21st Century Skills.

PAPU assists job seekers in finding employment by offering them resources such as mentorship and assistance on how to look for employment.

The initial programme offers computer training, life skills, free internet access for job seekers, counselling, advisory referrals, social support and they are working on implementing an entrepreneurship programme.

Dawn Joseph, the centre manager said that this new programme was aimed at job creation and small to medium enterprise development.

“We are inviting youth between the ages of 18 and 29 years old to be trained for 10 days at the Coronationville Methodist Church Hall in August and September,” she said.

The Gauteng Department of Education and the Gauteng City Region Academy will be facilitating the training. The two have partnered with 21st Century Skills to conduct the training which is accredited and the learners will earn 27 credits over the 10-day period.

The purpose of this programme is to introduce and elevate learners’ skills so that the youth in the community can be competent in operating within the business environment.

“We have registration forms which they can complete at PAPU as soon as possible because the places are filling quite quickly,” said Joseph.

Applicants will be trained in IT and business skills through blended learning approaches.
