‘Human beings were not created to be idle’

"Let's not get involved in politics but rather focus on being becoming better teachers for our learners.”

Principals and teachers from the Greater Eldorado Park community celebrated their profession with a workshop that was hosted by the South African Council for Educators (SACE).

Guest speakers from the organisation motivated teachers and urged them to achieve the goals they have set out for themselves and their learners.

Marlon Louw, Eldorado Park Secondary School principal and chairperson of the forum, gave the opening statement and explain the reason for the workshop.

He said, “We are here today to celebrate being teachers, we need to come together in order to continue teaching. Let’s not get involved in politics but rather focus on being becoming better teachers for our learners.”

Louw said that it was the educators’ duty to give hope, not only to their learners but to the community and other schools outside of Eldorado park as well.

Richard Twala from SACE said that teachers needed to reclaim teaching as a profession. SACE is an organisation that deals with the registration of teachers. Twala urged teachers to ensure that their learners pass. “It is your duty as a teacher to make sure that your learners do well.”

The teachers had the honour of having Mavis Ureke, a human behaviour specialist, chartered human resources professional, an author and speaker in their presence.

Ureke motivated the teachers and urged them to place value on themselves.

“If you do not place value on yourself, no one else will. Always do the maximum that you can, always contribute in some way. Human beings were not created to be idle. Always remember- you are the destiny of your own happiness” Ureke said.
