Police sustain minor injuries after hijacking in Emndeni

Two police officers from Naledi Police Station escaped a shootout with minor injuries after a scuffle with criminals in Emndeni.

Responding to a reported car hijacking in Xuma Street, the police quickly rushed to the scene where they saw a suspicious vehicle.

According to one of the victims, she was dropping off a church member, and after stopping the car, she heard a knock on the window only to find that three armed men were pointing firearms at them.

They were instructed to get out of the vehicle and were placed in the back seat of the vehicle with one of the armed suspects.

“While the police were patrolling, they spotted a silver Kia Rio with doors wide open and proceeded to probe.

“The suspects shot at the police and hit the windscreen on the driver’s side and drove off.

“They later ditched the vehicle with the complainant after coming to a dead end street and fled on foot.

“The police constables were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries, shock and later discharged, a case of attempted hijacking and of attempted murder were opened,” said Thulani Mbambala, Communications Officer at Naledi Police Station.

The police are appealing to anyone who might have information about the suspects and their whereabouts to come forward and that the information will be treated as confidential.

The community is advised not to apprehend the suspects as they are armed and dangerous, but rather call the nearest police station or crime stop number at 08600 10111 or SMS crime line at 32211.

Investigations are already underway.
