All not lost for the Tshebi family from Holomisa Camp, Klipspruit

"Tshebi is an old woman and having to go through what she went through is really painful."

A shack.

In early June this year, a couple was burnt to death in their shack in Holomisa Camp, Klipspruit, leaving the children with their grandmother, Nozipho Tshebi.

Tshebi was left hurt and confused but the Ward 22 councillor, Raynett Moabi made it a point to attend to the family’s needs immediately after the incident, ensuring that it gets all the essentials lost in the fire such as birth certificates, Identity Documents (ID), clothes and of course, a new shack.

Although documentation such birth certificates and a shack cannot be replaced in a day, Moabi exhausted every avenue to make sure the family received assistance.

Finally, on Women’s Day, August 9, the family received a shack to replace the one consumed by the fire.

“I visited them immediately after the incident along with the MEC of Human Settlement, Paul Mashatile. He promised the family that he was going to replace the shack and that I should facilitate the process to ensure that they receive it, but because there are certain procedures to be followed, a shack couldn’t just be handed over in just a day,” said Moabi.

“Tshebi is an old woman and having to go through what she went through is really painful, so we felt that on Women’s Day, together with some African National Congress members, we should make her feel special and give her something to cherish-a home,” she added.

Moabi said that she was very proud of herself as a councillor and that her being in the forefront, the community was receiving the necessary assistance.

The South African Social Security Agency has also contributed in making sure that the family received help.

“I wish to thank the councillor for being there for us from the beginning. It is still painful but the support I receive is really helping me heal.

“I am really happy, my grandchildren now have a home, and this will surely put a smile on their faces. I have been receiving food, mattresses, blankets, etc. I am really thankful, may God bless everyone who has been involved,” said Tshebi.
