Baartman taking baking to a new level
Meet 30-year-old Jacqueline Baartman and her baking business
Jacqueline Baartman, a 30-year-old lady that has developed a passion for baking, is taking it to greater heights by starting out her own business called Jacqui’s confectionary.
Baartman said that she developed a passion for baking after getting a positive response from people.
She added, “I do it for the smiles on the kid’s faces, for the reactions of the people and being in a bakery just makes me happy because I enjoy the environment.”
Baartman started baking in 2011, after having studied at the University of Johannesburg Bunting Road Campus from 2007 until 2010 and working with Kate Dewaal, owner of Sugar and Ice.
Baartman said, “I worked for Kate for three months, where she taught me more about baking and all the tricks of the trade.”
In 2011, when she started baking, Baartman noticed that it didn’t start off all smooth for her but it took dedication and commitment to keep her engine running.
Baartman had a stall at Shoprite in Eldorado Park Extension Five in the parking lot, where she sacrificed her time and energy in the attempt of getting her name known and for the community to get the taste of her work.
In 2016, after years of providing the community with baked treats right from a parking lot, she decided to take it up a notch and register her business, where she now works from home.
“It’s far easier to bake from home, firstly I save on rent and secondly, well, I mean, it’s at home,” said Baartman.
She also added that she would like to extend her business to become a convenience store for bakers or anyone who would like to bake.
To top it all off, even if you can’t bake, Baartman has got your back, as she also provides classes, where you can learn everything about baking.
