67 minutes of entertainment for grannies

"Teach and love your children and grandparents"

A fitting close to Mandela Month as the elderly in Protea Glen were hosted at an event at the Protea Glen Day Care Centre as a celebration of their 67 minutes.

The event was a pilot project hosted by TAIM Projects in order to celebrate the month with 67 minutes of entertainment for extension 11.

“The purpose of the event was to showcase the many talents of the youth within Protea Glen and create a platform for existing and upcoming performing artists and also foster more volunteers in the youth community of Protea Glen,” said Nkululeko Ntuthu the founder of TAIM Projects.

Unlike other organisations in the community of Protea Glen, TAIM Projects chose to celebrate the day in a different way.

“We recognised the potential the youth has in creative arts- dancing, singing and drama that can be used to their advantage to express themselves and practice to explore their capabilities.

“We wanted to be innovative and inspire the audience through creative arts.”

TAIM Projects is all about the community and youth development. They to nature young people through art, dance programmes, music instruments, drama and poetry.

Ntuthu said that they want to eradicate apparent factors of crime such as violence, early pregnancy, dropping out of school and lack of parent involvement in education.

There were just below 100 people who attended the event. The day care centre is divided into two departments being the early childhood development and elderly development.

The organisation partnered with private donors and residents to make the event possible.

“The underlying message of the day was that we should practice humanity and volunteerism on a daily basis and also strongly initiate projects that will develop the community,” said Ntuthu.

Performances on the day included Betherl Champions, Ezase 4 Iphakamisi, First Jan and CFC boys, a dance group.

“We should not practice humanity occasionally. Mandela Day is a symbol of love, care and kindness that we all contain and should offer to everyone constantly.

“Let us work in cohesive against the social ills affecting us negatively, young people live your young years fruitfully. Parents, through the harsh and pressed times you must still be leaders. Teach and love your children and grandparents,” concluded Ntuthu.
