Men should stop abusing women and children and women should also respect men in order to avoid this unnecessary violent action.
This was said by the Minister of Women in the Presidency, Susan Shabangu at the religious event held at the Chiawelo Community Centre.
The event was hosted by the South African Network of Religious Leaders living with or personally affected by HIV and AIDS (SANERELA).
A candle light prayer was also held at the event. The event was named the Religious Leader’s Dialogue with men and was focused on abuse against women and children and people affected by HIV/AIDS.
The purpose of the event was to foster fellowship, mutual support and empowerment among the faith leaders to implement an effective response to fight shame and discrimination against people living with HIV.
This event was also part of the celebration of the South Africa’s men’s health month that seeks to increase the awareness of preventable health problems and encourage early detection and treatment of disease among men and boys.
SANERELA also kicked off a series of dialogues that aim to divide the impact of manhood on HIV and AIDS Counselling, testing and access to other health services and also address the issues of gender based violence in Gauteng Province.
The dialogue further identified religious leaders who can be agents of change to support this course in the province.
The campaign was launched by Shabangu, South African National Aids Council (SANAC), Sector Leaders and organisations working with men and boys. Well known actor, Sello Maake ka Ncube attended and the event.
