Mandela Month: HCW pampers the elderly

Hadassah Centre for Women

The plague of drug, alcohol and substance abuse has left many people in a dark place, where there seemed to be no light.

Those who fall victim to this, are mothers, fathers, young girls and boys as drugs do not discriminate according to age.

Rehabilitation centres bring forth the light and that spark of hope for a brighter future.

Hadassah Centre for Women (HCW) was once a dark place itself where the very same thing that has people fall victim to was manufactured.

HCW in De Deur in Walkerville was the venue for Come Back Mission’s (CBM) Mandela Day. A day where everyone took the time to do something good for the community either for 67 minutes or the whole day.

The idea was to ponder on the legacy that Madiba left behind.

On July 18, Cheryl Pillay who is the founder and director of CBM treated the elderly to scones and tea, a pampering session and lunch.

Pillay arranged that the elderly be transported from the Village, in Eldorado Park Extension Three to the plot in De Deur. This was made possible, thanks to Arrow Coaches.

The ladies at the rehab centre assisted CBM to make Mandela a special one. Not only did they keep the elderly’s mouth’s chewing, they also entertained them with a variety of games and prizes.

Pillay said, “We want to take on the honouree of serving you and allowing you the time out to come and relax. We want to pamper, spoil and just treat you on your day out.”

Pillay said that she put a lot of effort into the event and that it was not for the help of Spar, who took the time to bake a cake, others who help with sponsorship and Arrow Coaches for transport it would not have been possible to have such a successful day.

Pillay said, “We need to give God all the glory and the honour for all the great things he has done because he has made it possible.”
