Jobs, jobs, jobs at Career Expo

Careers Expos are there to help the unemployed engage with employers and other biz-hubs

Pastor Christopher Martin, who passed away in August last year, was a missionary and church planter who served in Johannesburg.

Christopher and his wife Sheriffa Martin, have been in the ministry over 47 years, and have planted and pastored churches across South Africa.

He also planted and pastored two churches in Kansas City, Kansas in the United States of America, but returned to South Africa in 1991.

This is where they decided to start the Paseo Baptist Church in Klipspruit West Extension Two. The Paseo Baptist Church was established in 1992 at the Firethorn Primary School in Klipspruit West, Extension One.

“Our emphasis is in uplifting the community that we serve to the honour and glorify of our Saviour, Jesus Christ,” said Johan Martin.

The Day Care Centre and Pre-School started with the intention of giving children from previously disadvantaged communities the tools to be properly prepared for formal schooling.

For many of us, we all know that unemployment within in our community has reached a level beyond our imagination. On a daily basis, the number of people that are seen on the streets walking around is countless.

Perhaps the selected few enjoy not having anything to do, but then again it could be because some of them have not even matriculated, and we all know how difficult it is to get a job without that piece of documentation.

More often than not, in today’s working industry it’s more about who you know, than what you know. So that should not stop you from achieving.

Career Expos are there for that reason. They are there to help you engage with employers and business hubs. What does this mean? It means that you can grow your knowledge, and this will help you achieve your goal.

Furthermore, you are able to obtain background information on possible career opportunities and research the skills required.

Career Expos expose you to the abilities and other personal attributes sought by employers, preferably those recruiting from your field of study.

On Saturday, July 8, Paseo Baptist Church hosted a Jobs, Skills and Career Expo. The expo took place at the church in Klipspruit West, Extension Two on the corner of St. Francis and St. Christopher Street.

The Department of Labour and employment services of South Africa attended the expo and were registering people on their employment database.

Other organisations that attended the expo included the Jozi Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Hub, Omenon and Lulaway.

Lulaway Job Centres acts as employment hubs in communities throughout South Africa and not only provides hope and inspiration to local communities that often struggle with access to opportunities but also a user-friendly platform for candidates to access job opportunities close to where they live.
