‘A school is an environment for learning, not dumping’

The Dobsonville Social Housing project community liaison officer, Samkelisiwe Khumalo and the Ward 48 African National Congress branch (ANC) and Murray and Dickson undertook a cleanup campaign at two local schools.

The schools which benefited from the initiative were Thembelihle Primary School and P.J Simelane High School.

According to Khumalo, the community often dumps illegally on open spots next to both schools. P.J Simelane High School soccer field was almost covered with garbage.

“We are excited that the team of volunteers played their part in removing the garbage at both schools.

“The schools are now clean. This was part of our contribution to the Nelson Mandela 67 minutes,” he said.

ANC Ward 48 branch executive member Peter Lamula said they are excited that they made their contribution on such important day.

“We thanked all the stakeholders who played a significant role in making this day possible,” said Lamula.

Tumelo Lesiba (18) from Dobsonville said, “It is high time that people stop dumping at the local schools and open spaces in the township.

Schools are institutions where we should acquire knowledge and should not be used as dump sites.

“We should be proud of our schools not only on Mandela Day but throughout our lives,” said Lesiba.
