Our Valiant Patrollers: ‘The eyes and ears of our men in blue’

We salute our patrollers for their voluntarism

Patrol officers are important in the communities they serve because they work hand-in-glove with police by patrolling their communities and reporting any criminal behaviour.

They empower our communities to prevent crime and create safer environments.

This is usually a voluntary service and any citizen who has a caring attitude to their community may offer their services.

A team of dedicated men and women from Ward 25 in Pimville have vowed to protect and serve their community, acting as the last deterrent to criminals, promoting vigilance and gathering information regarding any criminal activity in their community.

They go out in groups by forming shifts, rosters, working in teams and signing on duty with the Kliptown Police through their sector manager, noting anything that could be suspicious and informing the police immediately of incidents requiring urgent attention and the police also notify them of any suspicious activities and trouble spots they would like the patrollers to keep an eye out for.

There is always a police van in the area which provides support for the patrollers as well as scouting for any criminality.

The patrollers explained that they have a peaceful patrol on a daily basis, starting from 8 am to 12 am, depending on the day.

Sometimes the streets are too busy and there is a lot of suspicious activities and they have to extend their patrolling hours until 4 am.

According to the team, the community is showing a positive response by supporting them and allowing them to conduct their duties and activities with ease when it comes to criminal matters.

It is for these reasons they will never back down in their fight against crime.
