Learners rewarded for holiday programme

"You don't need to ask what the government can do for you, but ask yourself what can you do for the community."

Eagle’s Eye Youth Empowerment Organisation hosted a four-day school holiday programme at Siyavuma Primary School during the June school holidays.

With about 50 learners in attendance, the programme offered fun learning activities that catered for both academic and non-academic learning.

Other than hosting school holiday programmes, the organisation runs Saturday school classes and also functions to empower young people in the community, even those not from Siyavuma.

With the primary purpose being to reach out to the community and making a difference, the programme started in March 2016 to assist children at the school with their homework and other extra curricular activities by involving them in the programme.

“You don’t need to ask what the government can do for you, but ask yourself what can you do for the community.

“Recently, we had a school holiday programme in which we fed the scholars, played sports and indigenous games, engaging in arts and culture also assisting them with skills for personal development,” said Nomvula Zamisa.

To add the cherry on top for learners, the organisation organised an award ceremony to reward learners for their participation in the programme.

“We also had an awards ceremony for kids to appreciate them for good attendance and motivating them in order to produce a better generation for tomorrow,” said Zamisa.
