Pre-Mandela Day with eTv Sunrise and the Gail Britoe Foundation

"Everything that I am blessed with, all comes from the work of God."

Mandela Day is always a day where many organisations make an effort to make a difference in the lives of children in their communities.

Nelson Mandela International Day is a day on which the world commemorates Madiba’s lifetime of service celebrated in South Africa and internationally.

eTV Sunrise visited Eldorado Park to document the work that the Gail Britoe Foundation (GBF) does.

GBF and eTV Sunrise hosted a pre-Mandela Day event. The foundation and the Sunrise team kicked off their day by singing the national anthem and serving breakfast to the children of the Eldorado Park community.

GBF chairperson, Ensley Britoe said, “Everything that I am blessed with, all comes from the work of God.”

Shortly after breakfast was served, the foundation and the Sunrise team made their way to the Andries Meyer Old Age Home, where GBF blessed 80 seniors with blankets as part of their winter drive.

At the old age home, they served the elderly cake and tea. This was followed by a visit to the Old Age Village in Extension Three. As part of their winter drive initiative, they also gave out 115 blankets to the elderly at the village.

To close off the day, GBF returned to the flats in Extension Two known locally as ‘Die Klein Two’ where they held a modelling competition for the children of the community.

GBF not only hosted the competition but also had jumping castles and games for the children to play as well as serving them lunch.

Prior to the start of the event, GBF was sponsored with branded bottled water from Restore Health Water (RHW). RHW has partnered with GBF in order to empower the community.

The purpose of RHW partnering with GBF is to raise money for the foundation, through the sale of the branded bottled water.

Faheema Mohamed from RHW said, “What I see happening here today truly makes me happy. That’s why we joined forces with the Gail Britoe Foundation.”
