Illegal connections still claiming lives in Eldorado Park

"We can't raise children around exposed electricity cables or illegal connections."

Electrocutions have been a topic of discussion over the past few years. Many residents in the Greater Eldorado Park are furious because many lives have been claimed by live wires and exposed cables in and around Nancefield.

“We cannot raise our children in such conditions,” an Eldorado Park resident said.

“In 2015 an 11-year old boy was electrocuted while playing in the area. A few months later on December 9, last year, yet another life was claimed in the Nancefield area on a rainy afternoon.

“The deceased, Kaylene Maynard left home to visit a friend. According to an eyewitness, Maynard was walking and suddenly flew up into the air. An eight-year-old boy was electrocuted around the same time.”

City Power needs to take responsibility. It is their cables after all. Our people are dying and City Power is not doing anything about it,” an eyewitness said.

“City Power spokesperson, Sydney Mphahlele confirmed that the two 2016 cases were not on City Power’s database. “These cases were never reported,” Mphalele said.

Kayanews covered the electrocutions in the Slovo Park at the time. According to Kaya News, JJoburg mayor Herman Mashaba said that the new council had inherited the ANC‘s budget and they had overlooked areas like Slovo Park throughout their term in office.

“Mashaba committed to pressuring City Power to deal with the illegal connections as a matter of urgency.”

Kaya News Residents need to be on the lookout for any illegal connections as they are life threatening.
