The Democratic Alliance (DA) is excited that their recently held march to Dobsonville Police Station demanding satellite police station finally brought positive feedback to the residents.
According to DA leader in the area Themba Floyd, amongst issues of great concern to the Braamfischerville residents was the reestablishment of the satellite police station in their township.
“Initially, Braamfischerville had its own satellite police station which was mysteriously removed without consultation of residents.
As a result, crime skyrocketed and the place was no longer safe for the residents.
“However, after we handed our demands at the Dobsonville Police Station the provincial acting police commissioner’s office agreed that the reinstallation of the satellite police station in the area is of paramount importance,” said Floyd.
He added that the provincial police commissioner forwarded their grievances to the national office which promised that as soon as logistics are put in place, the reinstallation of the satellite police station will commence.
He said in a near future Braamfischerville will have its own satellite police station.
Floyd added that they are happy that police also heeded their call for the establishment of a separate police unit that deals with gender-based-violence and rape cases.
“The new unit will be based in Moroka Police Station. We are excited that the unit will play a pivotal role in fighting women killing and rape cases which are rampant in the community.
“In the past months we had several reported rape and killing incidents of women in the country,” said Floyd.
He said they are excited about the commitment made by the acting police head in Dobsonville Police Station Colonel Lucas Visages.
“Colonel Vissagie promised that his office will remain opened for the public to report criminal activities in the communities.
“We are also calling for the Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers to be visible on our roads. Their presence will reduce crime within communities,” said Floyd.
