Karabo Baloyi from Meadowlands given another chance

Karabo Baloyi (15) from Meadowlands Zone Seven, was handed a cheque in the amount of R38 000 by Blue Heaven International under the leadership of Archbishop Petrus Khanyi on July 4 in order to cover the Bronchitis specialist’s bill.

Baloyi contacted the Meadowlands Urban News reporter several weeks ago seeking donations in order to pay a specialist that would help her fight the condition which has left her dependant on an artificial respirator which helps with her breathing.

Soweto TV picked up on the story and took it upon themselves to help Baloyi find a sponsor.

Baloyi said that after appeared in print, she received calls from residents who prayed for her.

“Thabang Soli from Soweto TV saw the article and offered to help me. He interviewed me and followed me at school to see and capture how I spent my day using oxygen.”

Following that, Shakes Mashaba visited Baloyi and offered to open a trust fund for her. Pick n Pay at Maponya Mall donated groceries to the Baloyi household.

Apozion presenter, Nondumiso Dlamini contacted Baloyi and told her about the bishop from Ermelo who was willing to cover the bill.

Baloyi said, “I am very happy because I will be able to play with other children and not use oxygen.”

Before the handover of the cheque, another doctor came to visit Baloyi and gave her medication that will help her breathe easier.

“I felt relief after drinking the medication. It felt as if something that was preventing me from breathing was removed. I no longer get tired that much,” she said.

Dlamini said that Khanyi saw the news on Soweto TV and offered to help her.

Dlamini said,”He does a lot of charity work; hence he took it upon himself to help Baloyi.”

Dlamini said that they consulted with the specialist about Baloyi’s condition and they were told that the X-Ray alone will cost R11 900, but everything would amount to a total of R38 000.

Khanyi’s personal assistant, Zanele Magudulela said that the bishop is happy to have come here and lent a helping hand.

“At the office of the archbishop, we help children like Baloyi and those who are underprivileged. We are thankful to the archbishop for the donation so that she can play like other children.

“The money will be deposited to the hospital’s account,” she said.

Khanyi also gave the Baloyi household R2 000 in cash for them to buy groceries.

Baloyi’s grandmother, Lydia Pani said that she was thankful to Meadowlands Urban News and the community for their response.

“I am glad that she will also get to play with other children,” she said.

Dlamini accompanied Baloyi to her first doctor’s appointment on July 5. The Meadowlands Urban News reporter will follow Baloyi’s journey to recovery.
