A night to remember – The Glitter Effect

Most of us have good memories of how special our matric dance was.

For most learners, the high school experience is one which leaves us with memories which will be cherished as we grow older. It is also the place where lifelong friendships are forged.

For some, all they want to do is forget their high school career while others want to go back to a specific event.

Reaching matric is an accomplishment that a lot of people don’t get to scratch off their bucket lists. Attending the matric banquet is an exciting event for many but for learners who lack the financial resources to make the day possible, it can be somewhat traumatic.

Most of us have good memories of how special our matric dance was, from the planning to the actual event, it is a rite of passage most South African matriculants go through.

The cost of buying the perfect outfit and getting the right look for the big day has increased in recent years and many are unable to afford it.

Teamwork helped these matriculants to look stunning on the big day.

Girls would get their nails and hair done, where they would sit for hours on end at the salon, whilst the nerves kicked in. the gentlemen would be at the barbershop making sure that they have the freshest looking haircut.

This day means so much to us that even our parents, either broke their backs to get what you needed or they made sure that they had enough money saved up to ensure that you could have everything.

They did all of that for us in ensuring that banquet night, is an unforgettable one. For some of us, our parents do not have the financial capacity to provide us with the necessities that are required for a matric dance.

The Glitter Effect, however, has worked their way around such circumstances.

The Glitter Effect is a non-profit organisation which was established to help young boys and girls who cannot afford to go to their matric farewell or afford the attire necessary for their matric farewell, as we all know how special that night is for every young boy and girl.

The Glitter Effect team and one of their girls.

The Glitter Effect aims to assist approximately four to six students from about five high schools, where they help in getting banquet attire, their hair prepared for both males and females, nails for the ladies as well as the most important piece of paper, matric farewell tickets for students who cannot afford it.

If anyone has the capacity to or would like to extend a helping hand, the Glitter Effect team is requested donations in the form banquet dresses, suits or even heels and shoes for both genders.

Any cash donations can be made on request of their banking details.

The Glitter Effect team said, “Remember, a little can go a long way.

“Helping someone feel like they belong is a magic all on its own. Join in on the magic and let’s give them a night to remember.”
