GDE Online Admissions applications closed

Gauteng Department of Education says applicants have had ample time to apply.

The Gauteng Department of Education has to date received 269 676 applications for next year’s enrolment for Grade 1 and Grade 8; 147779 for Grade 1 and 121 897 applications for Grade 8.

This 59 921 figure is higher compared to the same period last year. The current capacity is 342 610. The Online Admissions for these two grades was opened on May 2 and closed on June 12 at midnight.

The media liaison for GDE, Steve Mabona said, “We have given every person who desired to register for next year ample time to do just that, and we really do not comprehend how people could have missed the deadline because our system works very well.”

People may have myriad reasons as to why they couldn’t register their children, if you happen to be one of those, the GDE has come up with an alternative plan to attend to them next year.

The disadvantages to being attended to alternatively next year, however, will be the fact that space will be limited by then, so parents will not have choices of which school their children will be placed.

Hence it was essential to complete the process on time because then, parents had a choice.
