Imperial and Ukhamba’s Community Development Trust officially opened the Cavendish Primary School Library and Resource Centre in Eldorado Park Extension Six on May 24, in an attempt to bring a meaningful learning environment to the children of the area.

The Imperial and Ukhamba Community Development Trust was founded by Bill Lynch and Hafiz Mohammed. What they do is assist selected schools in providing learners with a well-balanced education.

Whilst nurturing their self-confidence, they also empower them to reach their full potential. Cindy Shekeshe, project manager of the Imperial and Ukhamba Trust said, “Cavendish is number 26 of all the library and resource centres that we have built since we started.”

The establishment of school libraries as well as classroom intervention, curriculum development, management training, extracurricular events, co-curricular activities, volunteer programmes and technical training projects is what the trust is fundamentally operating on.

The principal of Cavendish Primary, Mervin Louw said, “I am really excited to be the first primary school to have a library. I know that it will better the children’s literacy as well as take Cavendish to the next level in terms of passing on knowledge to the learners.”

“Chante Abrahams, a Grade Seven learner said, “It feels good to know that you can actually go the library and study or even read books about what you learning.”
