13-year-old Radebe taking baby steps towards a better future

Age is nothing but a number to a passionate fashionista in Protea North.

Whoever said that dynamite comes in small packages was right, because Protea North born Sihle Radebe is making his dreams clear to his peers now.

The 13-year-old Radebe is starting his own brand label inspired by Soweto Male Wear (SMW).

“I just wanted to show people my dreams, which are my brainchild and I have big dreams for it and I want to see this going very far and becoming successful and seeing lots of people wearing my brand.”

Only in Grade Seven, the pre-teen had doubts about his vision because he felt like it was too much work, but his love for fashion helped him to push forward and move them from being just dreams to a reality.

“I started with deejaying on the side and my parents were really not supportive of that career path I was choosing, especially because it’s a night time job that requires me being out all the time.”

“When I told them about the clothing brand I wanted to start, they saw that it’s going to keep me indoors and it won’t force me to go out at night and they are giving me full support on this,” said Radebe.

The merchandise that he will be selling are caps, sports bras, tops, t-shirts, track pants, shorts backpacks, golf tees, v-neck tees and crop tops which will have the Crazy Ink Clothing brand printed.

The Jim Fouche Primary learner speaks of how Lesego Mabusela from SMW guided him and helped him to turn his dreams into a reality, teaching him to exceed the limits you set on yourself to see what you can do outside of your boundaries and inspire him to pursue the project with the help of his father’s funding.

The clothes will cater to teens and young adults from the ages of 13 to 25.

“I see this as my future, I want to go and study in tertiary so that I can be able to do it myself without relying on someone else and I can have full control of my creativity and nobody else’s influence,” he stated.

Even though he’s an introvert at heart, Radebe wants to encourage his peers to do the same, Radebe concluded, “You are never too young to start making your path to start creating your future.

“Follow your dreams, don’t be influenced by people’s comments on your age and just focus on yourself.”
