Moses Kotane Primary School officially opened by government

Gauteng Province is proud to open the 46th school since 2014.

The Gauteng Department of Education has vowed in bringing better education to the public. In an effort to carry on that mission, the department also took responsibility of building new infrastructures that will complement the mission.

After few months and weeks of waiting, the Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi and the Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga, together with the Infrastructure Development MEC Jacob Mamabolo, finally took to Moses Kotane Primary School to say “the job is done and it’s time the children receive their lessons in a suitable environment”.

Panyaza stated that “by 2020, the containers and asbestos schools will be history. Education is a great weapon in fighting starvation.

“We are aiming at giving these children the best education to create a very first generation to say “no” to the RDP houses and to the grants as they will be well educated and be able to provide for themselves.

“The provision of school with modern facilities in the township will go a long way to improve and transform the quality of education in townships.” stated Panyaza.

Minister Motshekga added that; “Investment in basic education is the apex priority of the government invalidating education as a vital tool to be used in the 21st century to succeed both socially and economically.

“We believe that basic education is the key instrument that can be used to mediate most of the challenges facing our society, be it poverty, inequality and pervasive unemployment. The knowledge attained through basic education helps us to open doors to a lot of opportunities for better prospects in life and better career programmes.”

At a cost of R106 million, the school will cater about 1 320 learners from grade 0 – 7. It consists of 28 smart classrooms with smart interactive boards.

Five Grade R classrooms, two Smart Science laboratories, two smart multipurpose rooms, two smart home economics laboratories, one computer lab IT control room a Library, nutrition center and dining hall, Wi-Fi, and intercommunication for announcements.
