A word from the police is that four men have been arrested in connection with the killing of Mandla Hlatshwayo and his friend Oupa Duma at a pub in Pimville, Soweto.

Many people are still shocked by the news – while others are congratulating the South African Police Service for the swift response in making these arrests.

The Minister of Police, Fikile Mbalula has learned with shock and sadness about the passing of Mandla Hlatshwayo, who was brutally killed in an armed robbery in the early hours of the 14th May 2017.

“It is sad that we are losing role models in Society when our country so desperately needs them to inspire our youth.” Minister Fikile Mbalula said.

Minister Fikile Mbalula is highly concerned about the number of guns that are circulating in South Africa. The Minister plans to speed processes of The Firearms Control Act which provides the legal framework for the registration and control of firearms. Minister Fikile Mbalula will push for the Bill to control the impact of firearms as well as the limitation of firearms licences in our society.

“We need the reduction of firearms in circulation and the non-proliferation of both legal and illegal firearms.” Minister Fikile Mbalula said.

Minister Fikile Mbalula assures all South Africans that the South African Police will do everything in their power to get the killers of Mandla Hlatshwayo.

Minister Fikile Mbalula would like to send his condolences to the listeners of Jozi FM, the supporters of Mandla Hlatshwayo, his colleagues, friends, and Family.

A well-known actor, Dj, voice artist, director, and presenter Mandla Hlatshwayo and his friend, whose name has not been confirmed, were shot at Meli Pub in Pimville.

According to Captain Hitler Ngwenya, four armed men went into the pub with an intention of robbing, Hlatshwayo, and his friend was trying to rescue the victims of the armed robbery but unfortunately shot and killed.

Police are still probing a case of murder.

“We believe that the people who committed the crime live in this community and we are therefore appealing to the community to assist us in apprehending the culprits, and anyone who might have information regarding this, should contact 011 959 0526,” said Ngwenya.
