#Actforchange campaign makes stop at Orlando and Mofolo
Shoprite donates 200 buckets to homes.
Orlando and Eyethu Children’s Homes in Soweto each received 200 buckets full of goodies from Shoprite last week.
The donation forms part of the retailer’s #ActforChange campaign which is aimed at addressing the issue of food security challenges faced by many South Africans.
The buckets will go a long way in helping the two centres which are based in Orlando East and Mofolo. They are filled with necessities such as pilchards, samp, beans, rooibos tea, rice and many more nutritious food items.
“This donation will be used to make wholesome meals for the children, allowing the women who run these two organisations to focus their time and energy on offering the children the necessary support and care.”
“Hunger relief is an ongoing priority for Shoprite, and this is the first of many handovers that the retailer will be doing over the coming winter months,” reads a statement from Shoprite.
The Orlando Children’s Home takes care of more than 140 children who need to be fed every day.
Miriam Mazibuko from the home said they are very grateful to Shoprite for the donation.
“We take care of children who need to be fed properly every day. Not getting nutritious food can lead to diseases associated with malnutrition. We are saying ‘halala’ to Shoprite for helping us,” said Mazibuko.
This is not the first time Shoprite has donated something to Eyethu Children’s Home according to its communications officer Malcolm Rhodes.
“I don’t have much to say except that I would like to thank them for reminding us.The donation will go a long way in helping us. I wish they can do for others what they did for us,” said Rhodes.
