Westbury: Scholarship given to talented soccer star

Westbury born soccer enthusiast receives a scholarship to study in the USA

Angelique Sonja Seckel (16) a very talented soccer player from Westbury managed to receive a 95% scholarship with the Cannon School in North Carolina, United States of America.

The scholarship is to study in North Carolina for this year and the sports club that she belongs to, Chest Trap Sports have partnered with the University of Johannesburg to raise funds for Seckel’s travelling expenses.

They will be hosting a Youth Day Challenge in June 2017 that will play a great role in conjunction with the community of South Africa to make Angelique’s opportunity a success.

The Chest Trap Sports in partnership with the University of Johannesburg Football Club Programs greatly contributed to Angelique’s current success.

It took her through individual football training sessions that developed her soccer skills to a stronger level that partially led her to be recognized on the level that she is being reckoned with at her age.

The team is hoping that the fundraising is successful so that the income can not only be used for Seckel but will also be kept and utilised in the development process of other youngsters coming from similar backgrounds and venturing into heights similar to Angelique within South Africa’s community.

Chest Trap Sport hopes the press coverage will inspire South African youngsters as well as reach as many South Africans as possible to donate with any contributions towards her travelling expenses in August 2017.

The organisation is looking to the community’s contribution, the contribution does not only mean through money but through sharing by the word of mouth, they also asking for a donating as little as R10 towards the project.

The club plans to approach schools, churches, organisations and family in order to raise these funds.

“We would highly appreciate it if you can consider our proposal for sponsoring a fundraising event towards her travel costs, and joining us on our journey to achieve the dream in developing young financially disadvantaged South African girl football players into successful international and national footballers for the future,” said Leah Masango.

Zethile Hadebe said: “The little contributions will be effective once put together because every cent counts in helping us achieve our campaign objectives”.
