Meadowlands: Rishile primary’s overwhelming achievements

Rishile Primary School excels in art

Rishile Primary School in meadowlands Zone 4, won 32 trophies for marimba, poetry, public speaking and drama last year in 2016.

Tshepo Mongola, an art teacher at Rishile, said that six years back when he joined the school, they had equipments but were not used.

“I am coming from an arts and culture background and became interested with the equipment.

“I was willing to teach them how to play marimba – so I recruited students who were interested,” said Mongola.

According to Mongola, the children work hard during their practice.

“They come early in the morning, remain behind after school and attend practice on Saturdays.

“Our hard work paid off last year when we won 32 trophies.

“We won in all the competitions we participated in from district to national.

“If only we the were at the nationals, I was also aiming to win it too,” added Mongola

He explains that he volunteered to teach these children because he saw how they had nothing to do after school and during the weekends.

“I can see that parents fully support their children because they allow them to attend practice every day when I ask,” he said.

Mongola said that they sometimes get invited to attend events and functions.

“Last year we participated in an anti-drug campaign,” said Mongola.

Mongola said that he worries about the future of these young talented kids.

“I would like these kids to continue playing in high school but that is almost impossible because most high schools around meadowlands don’t take art serious,” said Mongola.
