Dorljota announces a new hotline for use by commuters

The hotline number is operational and 40 cases have already been reported.

Taxi commuters are often being victimized, verbally and physically abused by taxi operators who are not complying with the regulations governing this prestigious business.

It is because of such inhuman atrocities directed to unsuspecting commuters that the Dobsonville Roodepoort Leratong Joburg Taxi Association (Dorljota) came up with a new hotline.

Dorljota spokesperson Zeblon Simelane said their objective is to restore the image and regain their pride in their line of business.

“We are one of the first taxi association in Soweto that came up with such initiative. Our hotline could be accessed telephonically or by sending SMS message to our office.

“Commuters should report any transgression committed by our drivers on the road to our hotline,” said Simelane.

He said they should report the model of their car, described the driver of their car, report the taxi number plate and the colour of their taxi.

Simelane added that the infringed commuters should also report the direction the perpetrator of Dorljota is coming and which direction is headed to.

Finally, the commuter should report the type of crime committed by the taxi operator to their hotline number.

“The hotline number is operational and 40 cases have already been reported. Our intention of the hotline is to deal with complaints on the scene and some complaints will be dealt with by our office.

“All our taxis will have the hotline sticker available on the taxi’s windscreen and commuters are advised to save the hotline number on their respective cell phones,” said Simelane.

Dorljota is calling for commuter’s mass participation in making their association a leader in the taxi business.

The hotline number is: 071 639 7238 and can be accessed 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
