SEE PHOTOS: Celebrating our inner superheroes with blasts of colour

The happiest 5km came back full force this past weekend in Soweto.

Soweto was very colourful last weekend with the Colour Run coming back for the second time at Soweto UJ Campus.

The happiest 5km run, participants certainly didn’t allow the chilly morning weather to phase them as they donned all kinds of interesting fitness outfits to get their colour on.

The theme for this year’s run was encouraging runners, young and old, to step into spandex and don capes and masks while participating in the Superhero Tour.

The idea for this year’s theme was about acknowledging or celebrating the hero in everyone.

“We are unleashing everyone’s inner hero,” says national event coordinator, Trevor Latimer.

“Participants are encouraged to use The Colour Run as a platform for good.”

As much as the event is called a run, the event was not timed and was about having fun on the road with strangers and at the same time, be smothered from head to toe in different colours at each kilometre milestone.

Charl Nel, Head of Communications at Capitec Bank said that this was the world debut of The Superhero Tour.

“We are encouraged by being a part of this movement that has inspired thousands to put on their takkies, get active and support their communities across South Africa and the world, The Colour Run is known as The Happiest 5K on the Planet – and it’s easy to see why.”

Watch 2:

Participants followed through with the rules of the run, with wearing white at the beginning of the race as they relished every colour blast that was thrown their way.

There was no age restriction as even toddlers joined in on the fun.

After the race, the fun continued with the Colour Blast Festival which catered for everyone, musically and there was plenty of dance involved.
