Diepkloof marches against women abuse and rape

National taxi association pledged to protect women

After a series of rapes, including the case of a woman who was raped in front of her child after boarding a quantum taxi, the community of Diepkloof stood up to march against women abuse, rape, and domestic violence.

The march was attended by the National Taxi Association, Diepkloof SAPS, the ANCYL, some DA members and the Community Policing Forum.

Zenzile Tshabalala of Diepkloof SAPS said, “A pledge was made between the taxi association and the police, and an assurance was made that the taxi association has no hand or relation to the taxi that has been violating women.”

The march route went via Diepkloof Square and hundreds of residents many to support the cause against women abuse.

And pamphlets with the following safety tips were handed to the residents of Diepkloof by the SAPS; Walk in groups in the early hours of the morning or at night when going to and from work.

Avoid walking in isolated places alone. Report suspicious people and activities to the local police by dialling 112 on your cellphone. Carry a whistle with you at all times.

Make sure to alert people around about suspicious elements. Change your route every now and then.

Enter the nearest house if you suspect you are being followed.  Surrender your belongings to the criminals if they mug you at gunpoint.
