Riverlea: House of horror haunts neighbours

This empty house is a place of havoc

A house in Riverlea Zone 1, 18 Ganges Street has become one of the main drug dens in the area.

To those who once lived in peace in the area, now live in misery, discomfort, and isolation in their own homes.

According to an anonymous source, the house as been standing empty and incomplete for over four years.

The previous owner started building the structure but due to unknown circumstances had not completed it.

The house was then repossessed and ever since then it has been existing as a shell.

A resident admits that they allowed the youngsters from their street to hang out in the house, and sometimes youngsters use to go there to smoke their hookah pipes.

Recently the youngsters have disappeared and in place of them drug addicts have taken over the house.

Mandrax (drug), dagga and other drugs are smoked and taken in the house.

A source said that their children are exposed to terrible language and they are afraid. “Babies have been made in this place, everything goes on in here, the only thing short here is a body coming out of this place.”

The house has attracted addicts from all over Riverlea.

“They walk down the streets on a daily basis.Sometimes the same people come three or four times a day here; it goes on the whole day until early hours in the morning.”

“We need whoever owns this house to come and barricade it or put a security here or something because its pitch black in here and I mean even if someone was screaming, you can’t even help and check because its dark, you cant go in there.”

The main concern that residents have is with the drugs because when drugs are involved there’s usually crime, and they concerned that the addicts are going to become desperate and will break into the cars and houses.

One source said that she doesn’t sleep at night because there’s constant whistling, the dogs are barking, and they’ve been in the yard a few times.

“We have children here. We have spoken to the police, now no one is concerned anymore. No one is helping us out.”
