Shaving to show unity and support

Cancer supporters painted and shaved their hair to show support

The Ouma Motaung Cancer Organisation participated in a Shavathon as part of a build up to the event they will be hosting during April.

Like it does with its Soweto members, the organisation gave a helping hand of support and care to cancer survivors.

The driving force behind their support is the first-hand experience of how cancer can affect you or a loved one can suffer pain from cancer.

The Ouma Motaung Cancer Organisation attended the Shavathon to showing solidarity with those affected by cancer.

“Cancer breaks you down as a person from your hair to your skin, so shaving your head has become a symbolic gesture of support for cancer survivors.

“Thousands of patients feel the exact way mom did, having low self-esteem, feeling sad and depressed and all this on top of feeling sick each and every single day of life.

“No human should live like this, even though we cannot take the pain and suffering away, we can try to make survivors feel better by showing them how beautiful and strong they are in our eyes.

“The whole day I was cutting and spraying people’s hair at a cost of R50 and we genuinely had fun.

“We shared stories and I was touched when I spoke to a couple, both were diagnosed with cancer and it was truly inspiring to hear how they both survived it,” said Mathuto Nthuping.

Ouma Motaung organisation will be hosting their own cancer fund raiser in the form of a cake sale which will be held at Thokoza park on April 14 from 10 in the morning, everyone is invited to go join.
