ELDOS: Big spender gets stiffed by furniture store (Video Attached)

Cedric Lennets spent a whopping R45,000.00 at the store

For Eldorado Park Extension Three resident, Cedric Lennets, being medically boarded from his employment as a Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) employee proved to a setback as he was the only breadwinner in a family of five.

His pension payout from the GDE came as a bit of a windfall and he set out to purchase appliances and other household items which he hoped would cause some comfort for his family.

The total amount spent at the furniture store was a whopping R45,000.00 which included a refrigerator, and a kitchen scheme.

Lennets said, “I bought these all the items in October last year and started noticing defects such as the doors not being aligned and hinges not working properly.

“I have been going up and down to Lewis furniture stores and haven’t received any joy. I would like the kitchen unit to be replaced completely after spending so much money at their store.”

The drawers of the kitchen unit in question, do not align correctly and the handles are showing signs of being defective, which he added are what concerns him the most.

Further inspection showed the backing of the cupboards to be loose and Lennets is understandably upset at what he calls poor craftsmanship.

Kenneth Dani, a branch manager at the store, admitted to being aware of this particular case and said, “We need to purchase other handles and assemblies for kitchen scheme.

“The problem is that the person who does repairs for customers services four other branches, but we are hoping that the problem can be resolved by Monday.”

The National Consumer Commission (NCC) recognises the invaluable contribution customers make to the economy and provide redress to customers who have complaints against businesses or providers of goods and services.

They advise that a formal complaint is lodged with the business concerned and in the event that an amicable resolution is not found, approaching them directly at no cost.

A complaint may be lodged by submitting an e-mail to the NCC at consumer@gauteng.go.za for Gauteng residents. Complainants may also contact Reuben Sedibane on 011 355 8000 or 011 355 8648.

The complaint will then be assessed and a resolution sought between the two parties. Consumers form an integral part of the economy and their rights are protected within the Constitution of South Africa.
