Police searching for ‘white Quantum’ suspects following reports of multiple rapes

Gauteng Dept of Community Safety, Gauteng SAPS and Taxi Associations in serious talks over the violation of women's rights

The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, together with senior officials from South African Police Service met with the leadership from Taxi Industry to discuss recent rape incidents reported within the industry.

A number of rape and abuse of women incidents allegedly by taxi operators have been reported in recent times and the meeting was aimed at discussing ways on how to address them.

It has been reported that a white Quantum is being used by the perpetrators who pretend to be transporting people from A-B.

On a Facebook post from yesterday, the Gauteng Department of Community Safety posted:

Following the reports and citing on SABC of attacks on women and children by these perpetrators, MEC Nkosi-Malobane confirmed that an investigation is underway and also sent out a warning to taxi users to be vigilant and extra careful at all times.

Gauteng SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Lungelo Dlamini confirmed that one of the rape incidents happened in Orlando and no arrests have been made.

Dlamini said: “We are engaging with the taxi association to help us gather as much information about the taxi implicated in this situation.”
