Riverlea: CPF and JMPD at work during early hours

Victim hijacked in Riverlea

Community Policing Forum members put life and limb on the line on a daily basis.

They patrol neighbourhood streets from dusk till dawn and often encounter perilous situations.
Denzil Blignaut, a longtime CPF member in Eldorado Park happened Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers at 1am yesterday.

He said, “I was on patrol and saw car driving around suspiciously. I then called for assistance and JMPD officers responded.”

“They were with a Riverlea woman who had been hijacked at 1 am by two men and a woman.”
Blignaut further told how the hijackers had driven the victim to Lenasia and dropped her off there.

JMPD truck.

Thankfully, the woman was unharmed and the vehicle recovered in Lenasia by JMPD officers.
Tales like these are not uncommon for CPF members who patrol tirelessly and are an important link in the chain between police and the community.

This story and many others could have remarkably different endings and policing entities ensure that residents sleep soundly while they keep crime at arm’s length in the battle to reclaim our neighborhoods.
