Metrorail suspends 20 trains running between Naledi, Dube and Mzimhlophe due to violent protest

Service delivery protest in Soweto disrupts trains

Metrorail, on Twitter, confirmed having suspended 20 trains running between Naledi, Dube, and Mzimhlophe this morning due to violent protest.

Protesters blocked the railway with burning tires and stones.

Hosea Mothei, who uses a train every morning, arrived at work an hour late due to this protest.

“I waited at Dube station for about 30 minutes, we were then informed of the problem and told that trains had been temporarily cancelled.

“I had to catch a taxi to work as a result. This is actually the first time I hear about people protesting on the railways,” said Mothei.
