The allocation of houses explained to the Ward 42 community in Meadowlands Zone 2
Not everyone will receive the house yet only special cases who applied in 1996
Ward 42 Councillor Takalani Nefotoni conducted public meetings in different venues last week to discuss some of the issues troubling the community.
The meeting started at Thlokomelo Primary School in zone 2 on March 07, Thobeka Primary School on March 08 and at Rishile Primary School on March 09.
Issues discussed in the meetings included; special education, indigent burial, crime and the issue of RDP houses which was the one that the community was mostly concerned about.
Nefotoni invited Sechaba Lepote from Region D housing to give clarity on the issue of housing.
Lepote said that the City of Johannesburg in 2013 visited houses to verify the number of people with C-forms in order to come up with solutions as to why the list of people who applied in 1996 is never ending.
Lepote said that they took the information gathered and separated it individually e.g. How many senior citizens C- forms are without houses.
“There are two projects in Soweto that have to cater for all 45 wards.
“The Lufhereng project which is the major project with more than 20000 houses built has RDP’s, Semi bonds, service stands, flats and fully bonded units and the Fleurhof under the council resolution.
According to Lepote, 15 people from ward 41, 42, 43 will be allocated in Fleurhoff and five people were allocated so far and the remaining 10 will be allocated after confirmation.
Lepote said that people who earn more than R3500.00 will not qualify for and RDP but will qualify for other programmes.
“Preference will be given to special cases such as; military veterans, elderly citizens, and amputees,” he said.
