WATCH: Meadowlands residents protesting outside police station following the murder of a 55-year-old woman

Angry protesters demand answers from Meadowlands SAPS in connection with the murder of an elderly woman

Dube hostel residents protested outside the Meadowlands Police Station on yesterday afternoon following the murder of an elderly woman, a 55-year-old who was found dead.

One of the hostel residents, who partook in the protest, Nonkanyiso Bhengu, said that they wanted answers from the station commander since it is claimed that the station did nothing when the case was reported.

“We reported the case last week Friday of a missing person but the police did nothing to help us.

“We ended up searching for the person on our own and found her body yesterday next to the station by the hostel.”

Bhengu said they suspect that the woman was raped and stabbed when they found her.

“Yesterday, we contacted the police at 7 am in the morning and the police only arrived after 12 pm.

“We are tired of the Meadowlands police, we are going to burn the station if they don’t answer us,” she said.

Two people who represented the protesters were allowed access into the station while others waited outside.

A spokesperson for Meadowlands SAPS, Octavia Thebe said the deceased was reported missing on Sunday.

The police went to search at the hostel and did not find her.

“I will release more information after the station commander releases his statement.”
