Grassroots Foundation is not just about basketball

Foundation empowers youth through basketball in Jabavu

Grassroots Foundation is a Non-Profit Organisation which provides youth with sports development, life skills, and mentorship programmes.

The organisation is based in Jabavu and was established in 2014. It currently caters for 60 children that attend basketball practice on a daily basis.

“We work with children from the age of eight years, helping them to enhance their basketball experience in a competitive and positive environment.

“We aim to instil good character in the areas of leadership, to improve their outlook on life through the fundamental principle of the game of basketball,” said Sifiso Ngcobo, founder of Grassroots Foundation, coach and professional basketball player.

“We have recently attracted more schools and more young people into the programme.”

“For me it was very important to give back to the community and work with young people at an early age, take them out of the street, teach them how to become responsible men and women and also teach them the important principles of life,” explained Ngcobo.

“I work with all the primary schools around Central Western Jabavu and some kids from other schools not around Jabavu.”

The organisation has been around for three years and hosts its basketball and life skills events annually.
