UPDATE: Messages of support pour in following Dikeletso Matsheletja’s passing

When the incident took place, Matsheletja was from the school with other children and apparently, they tried crossing a pool of running water when she accidentally slipped and fell.

The DA in Bramfischerville and MMC Mpho Phalatse on behalf of the City of Joburg have sent their condolences to the family of Dikeletso Matsheletja who passed drowned during flash floods last week Thursday.

Her body was found in Mofolo South by workers from Basil Read Construction after a relentless search along the stream.

She was swept away by floods along the stream from Bramfischerville (Elias Motsoaledi Road) to Mofolo South.

She attended school at Forte High School in Dobsonville.

When the incident took place, Matsheletja was from the school with other children and apparently, they tried crossing a pool of running water when she accidentally slipped and fell.

This is at Elias Motsoaledi the point of the incident.

The kids who witnessed this heart-breaking ordeal, rushed home to inform the adults (in Jukskei) and the search was conducted.

DA Ward 44 councillor Jerry Mabe said: “We wish to thank everyone who took part in supporting the family during the search for the young girl, the workers from Basil Read Construction, Emergency Management Service, South African Police Service, Economic Freedom Fighters, DA and the general public.

“We extend our gratitude to the City of Joburg Social Development for their rapid intervention in providing support for the bereaved family and the office of the MMC of Health and Social Development Dr Mpho Phalatse, for sending representatives from her office to comfort the family and to establish the needs of the family in these trying times.

“The DA in this ward is committing to supporting the family during this time of grief and beyond,” said Mabe.

To her peers, schoolmates, teachers, neighbours and family we wish they could find comfort in knowing that the DA is with them in this difficult time.

On behalf of the DA in Bramfischerville, we say “A mowa wa gagwe o robale ka kagiso”.
