A bright wave of technology hit Protea Glen Secondary School this week when learners got schooled in the benefits of having Wi-Fi connection at home.
The chief executive officer of BrightWave Technologies, Charles Mwaura, said, “The internet is a powerful tool that offers empowerment through education and training, revenue generating opportunities through digital entrepreneurship and avenues to interact with the rest of the world on equal footing.
“With our facilities and capacity building campaigns, we are offering real value and true freedom for users. We see this service as only the first step towards our contribution in making this a reality for all.”
Parents, learners and residents gathered at the school listening to Brightwave’s presentation on the ‘home connect’ package which caters for the entire family’s internet needs and especially for the students who need it for homework.
Already it has 400 free Wi-Fi spots in Soweto, thus offering unlimited internet access to at least 100,000 residents each day.
“We learned a lot here, it was fruitful and very informative especially for our kids, now we can get internet cheaper in our own homes, so we are so happy, I will definitely get it soon,” said resident Nomthandazo Gana.
The 16-year-old Sibusiso Gasa, a learner in the school said, “Today I learned that this package can assist with homework and school projects, especially if connected in the comfort of our homes.”
After an informative session, learners had the chance to show off some dance moves as entertainment with interactive group sessions with the Brightwave team.
