Isulihle reveal their secret

Read programme supplements curriculum at Isulihle Primary

Isulihle Primary School has slowly seen steady improvement in their school results and the school principal has revealed the secret that’s up to her sleeve.

With a set plan in place, school principal Nona Molaba has joined the league of top achieving schools in Zola with the help of a curriculum support programme called Read.

Read is a language improvement programme that works with the school on a weekly basis and involves both teachers and learners.

“I had some experience with the programme before I even started working here.

“Once I started here as a principal, I saw the need for the programme in my school and I approached them to bring it to us.

“So far we have seen a significant improvement in school results and there hasn’t been any noted decline. Instead, we have had an improvement in the overall standard of teaching in the school,” said Molaba.

Read facilitates extra afternoon classes where specific topics in the curriculum are addressed and are given more attention and time.

This allows learners to grasp concepts and gives them time to refine what they have learned. “To supplement our maths, we want to start afternoon classes that will assist in maths, so that we have a balance across the whole curriculum,” said Molaba.
