WATCH: Inter primary athletics a big hit

Parents came out to support learners from 25 primary schools

The inter-primary athletics finals proved to be a nail-biting affair on February 19 at the Eldorado Park Stadium in Extension 9. There was a strong show of support of parents who came out to support the learners from the 25 primary schools in Eldorado Park and surrounding areas.

With the field events completed a week before, everyone looked forward to the much-anticipated sprints and the young athletes did not disappoint. Once these events got under way, the stand erupted in loud cheers as parents and supporters cheered on their favourites.

The Eldorado Park Primary Schools Sports Council coordinated a smooth programme with no incidents reported in- or outside the stadium.

WATCH:

The tightly contested event saw only a single point separating the top three schools and the last race served as a reminder of the athletic talent available in Eldorado Park, as the teams vied for first place until the end.

The top three primary schools which claimed the coveted first, second and third places, are; Florida Primary School (1st place), Eldocrest Primary School (2nd place) and Eldridge Primary School (3rd place).

Milnerton Primary School went on to claim the ‘Most Improved School’ trophy and a proud Ray Sparks, sports master at the school, collected the award.

The day saw the healthy sporting rivalry between the schools and emphasised the need for investment in the young athletes as well as sporting equipment.
