Principal shares ingredients for excellence

The school triumphed over a series of robberies

Madibane High School in Diepkloof is one of the high schools that were praised by the Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi for achieving a 100% mark last year.

The school principal, Lehlohonolo Molefe explained how her school managed to pull this off even after the school experienced a series of robberies last year.

According to Molefe, the school experienced a number of robberies, especially between October and December which was the examination period.

Molefe said, “By the grace of God we were able to accomplish this remarkable result because of the extremely committed staff, the children and the parents.”

The teachers sometimes had to operate without sufficient resources because the school sometimes even got broken into twice a week.

The window burglar bars, the doors, and walls were often broken and important school resources were often taken.

Molefe said, “We kept on and focused on our goal which was improving from our previous 94% mark.” She explained that their achievement took blood, sweat, and tears.

“We now have to sustain the standard and make sure all our learners obtain above average results and a 100% bachelor pass to place them at a better space,” she concluded.

Madibane High School is one of the oldest secondary schools in Soweto. The school was established in 1939 in Western Township. It relocated to Diepkloof in 1963 due to forceful removals and was named Madibane High after the then principal Harry Percival ‘The Shark” Madibane.
