Tears flow during emotional meeting

Mogammad-Yunus MacPherson was moved to tears when he met Romello Steyn at his home in Koper Street on February 13. The two boys’ lives are as different as day and night, yet it is this contrast which has community leaders on a drive to raise funds in order that their dreams be fulfilled.

Community leaders Cheryl Pillay, Liesl Valloo, Leslie-Ann Bezuidenhout and others have embarked on a campaign to raise the necessary funds through a raffle.

Tickets cost R100 each and up for grabs is a brand new JVC, 60 inch Light Emitting Diode, Full High Definition television set donated by NuWorld Industries.

Interested parties may purchase tickets directly from the EldosFM offices at the Crystal Mall in Extension Six or you may contact Faghree MacPherson on 060 527 1947 for delivery.

Romello Steyn sadly passed on February 15, but the two boys were afforded the chance to meet.

According to Faghree MacPherson, who was present at the meeting, the sight of two boys with vastly different circumstances, meeting under a single cause, brought tears to those who witnessed Mogammad-Yunus handing over the very first cap he received at the provincial level.

In a video recording, he describes feeling heartbroken to see the ailing Romello unable to participate in soccer, as the young boy is a self-confessed soccer fanatic.

Mogammad-Yunus added, “The visit made more aware of the struggles others face and inspired me to always strive towards achieving my goals by being dedicated and never giving up.”

As the raffle continues, community leaders are in talks to set up a dedicated trust fund to assist children battling the odds through disease and who need financial assistance in the pursuit of their dreams.
