Maseko is furnishing his community’s needs in Diepkloof

Vuka U Zenzele is the way to go in fighting poverty in the Township

Joseph Maseko of Diepkloof Zone Five used to work at a furniture shop where he sold furniture, now he makes it.

Maseko started operating RTE Trading back in 1989 and has not looked over his shoulder ever since. RTE specialises in upholstery and recovery.

Maseko said: “Self-employment was the only way I could quench my love for people and making furniture.”

His vast experience in the industry has helped him comprehend exactly which materials make up the best quality product at an affordable rate because serving his community is his priority.

Maseko explained that: “Running your own business has to ultimately upgrade your focus levels and discipline if you want to succeed.”

RTE’s main aim is to combat unemployment in Diepkloof and maybe in Soweto as a whole in time.

The founder is a married father of four children, three of which are still studying.

“I aim to take my children through school and tertiary so they can, in turn, be able to help people in the community who need help.”

Maseko’s talent attracts loyal customers to his place where he uses custom materials to create classy and customised furniture for families in Diepkloof.

Mandla Siko said: “Maseko is an exceptional man and good leader. We have seen kindness in him and hope that his business prospers because he is talented. Plus the community needs such alternatives for expensive furniture.”

RTE recovers old furniture, spray paints and manufactures new frames and wood legs.

Maseko purchased his own machinery to support his passion and help in the fight against poverty and unemployment in his community.
