Family dispute in zone 4 Meadowlands at Forbes road resulted in one of the family member being homeless

Ward 42 councillor was at the scene to help solve the conflict

After four years of family dispute about the ownership of the house, one of the family members had who had been staying in the house since birth was forcefully removed out of the house.

Ward 42 councillor Takalani Nefotoni said that one of the elders in the house decided to sell the house, knowing very well that his nephew also stays in the house.

According to Nefotoni, this is not acceptable and the matter shall be investigated.

The incident started at around 8am in the morning on February 14 and the community intervened refusing to allow the evicted to go.

“This is not right, where is this child going to stay?

“These houses belong to all family members – no one is allowed to sell the house, our grandparents left the house for us,” said a neighbour, Elisa Mokone.

SANCO secretary said that they will work with the councillor to investigate the issue further before a conclusion.

A meeting will be held to educate the community about Meadowlands houses.

“A disputed family house is not supposed to be sold until the matter is resolved.”

The person who was evicted known by the community as Sindi said that he is not ready to talk about the matter right now, he will talk once he has found a place to stay.

The uncle and the new owners of the house were not available for comment.
